Barrie police have released new details about their investigation as they continue searching for suspects in a Saturday morning assault, which left one victim stabbed and the perpetrators fleeing from police.
In the early hours of Nov. 16, police say officers received reports of an assault on Dunlop Street, where a victim sustained a minor stab wound.
Police said the assault is believed to have taken place sometime between 2:30 a.m. and 3:15 a.m.
Police say investigators were able to identify several persons of interest. Officers went to an address in the area of St. Vincent and Rose streets in Barrie in an attempt to locate the individuals.
With the assistance of uniformed officers, the investigators conducted a traffic stop as the suspects left the address in a vehicle, police say.
Police said two men were arrested as they attempted to flee from officers.
Officers located a loaded handgun, which had been discarded by a third individual, as well as a quantity of drugs, according to police.
The ensuing investigation determined the two people arrested were not persons of interest in the Dunlop Street stabbing occurrence, however.
The third individual that was in the vehicle and fled was believed to have been with the person responsible for the stabbing at the time of the assault. These individuals are still being sought by police.
In relation to the downtown stabbing, police said they are looking to identify the persons depicted in the photos included.
Police are asking anyone who can identify these persons, or have any information in relation to this incident, to contact the investigating officer at [email protected].
In relation to the traffic stop, police say a 30-year-old Scarborough man is facing numerous drug- and firearms-related charges, as well as a charge of assaulting a peace officer.
A 23-year-old Brampton man is also facing numerous drug- and firearms-related charges.
During the arrest, police said one of the suspects sustained an injury and, as a result, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) was notified and has invoked their mandate.
