A land surveyor working in a densely forested area off Highway 26 stumbled across human remains yesterday afternoon and police have been on scene since to investigate and search the area.

Huronia West OPP confirmed today that search teams located human bones in the area between Collingwood and Wasaga Beach. They remain on scene for further search and investigation. The original report was made to police at about 3:30 p.m. on May 24.

OPP Const. Lindsay Griffin said police called in a K9 cadaver dog and a forensic anthropologist as well as the OPP crime unit and coroner to assist on scene. The remains were located about 200 metres from the highway.

Griffin said she couldn't comment on the identity of the person whose remains have been found, nor for how long they have been decaying, but confirmed, "it's bones."

Police will likely be on scene for the next 24 hours, according to Griffin, and one lane of traffic is blocked in the area to keep the search and investigation team safe from traffic.
