Section of Barrie’s south end remains closed this morning after standoff

GO train service out of Barrie also affected due to ongoing police investigation

Almost 12 hours after a police standoff began, a significant section of Barrie’s south end remains closed this morning. 

Barrie police responded to an area near Mapleview Drive East and Yonge Street on Monday night for what was described as a "person in crisis."

Police are still releasing few details about the incident.

In a post to social media this morning, police said the following road closures remain in place: Mapleview Drive East east of Yonge Street at Lily Drive, Mapleview Drive East west of Yonge Street at Goodwin Drive., Yonge Street at Country Lane, and Yonge Street at Lockhart Road.

Train service is also affected. In a social media post, GO Transit says there is no train service from Allandale Waterfront GO or Barrie South GO. There will be a GO bus from Allandale Waterfront GO to Bradford GO to meet a 6:30 a.m. train departure.

There will be no train or bus service at or near Barrie South GO. Two trains start were to start at Bradford GO at 5:19 a.m. and 6:30 a.m.
