A transport truck driver has been charged after crashing into vehicles, including a police cruiser, at the scene of another collision Tuesday in Gravenhurst.
At 7:45 p.m., officers were called to a collision on Highway 11 North near Luigi Road, where a vehicle had flipped on its side. Shortly after police and a tow truck arrived on the scene, a transport truck struck two of the vehicles. The officers were not in their vehicle when it was hit, but the tow truck driver suffered minor injuries.
The 32-year-old transport truck driver, from Winnipeg, was charged with careless driving and failing to move over for an emergency vehicle or tow truck.
Bracebridge OPP closed Highway 11 North, just north of North Kahshe Lake Road, for the collision investigation.
“Bracebridge OPP responds to hundreds of motor vehicle collisions throughout the year, and managing those scenes on highways such as Highway 11 and Highway 400 can be complicated and risky. Those risks are greatly reduced when road users respond by slowing down and providing the space necessary to keep everyone safe,” police said in a news release.
