Barrie police say two teenagers have been arrested and loaded handguns were seized as part of a "proactive investigation" into drug trafficking in the city.

Officers with the drug enforcement unit and members of the community safety and well-being team arrested two individuals and executed two warrants at residential addresses in Barrie.

Shortly after 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 3, police say two male suspects were located in a vehicle in the area of Dunlop Street West and Ferndale Drive North as part of the investigation.

Assisted by the Barrie police tactical support unit, two 17-year-old Barrie males were taken into custody without incident.

"At the time of their arrest, they were each found to be in possession of a loaded handgun and a quantity of suspected cocaine and methamphetamine," police stated in a news release.

Both were held in custody pending bail hearings.
