Driver killed in Highway 400 crash identified (UPDATE)

The incident happened at about 1:30 a.m. between Vasey Road and Highway 12; OPP say the driver of second vehicle suffered non-life-threatening injuries

A driver driving the wrong way on Highway 400 was killed after crashing into this pickup truck at about 1:30 a.m. this morning. The driver of the pickup was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

UPDATE:
On Sunday afternoon, the OPP said the deceased driver of the north-bound car was Myroslav Baran, 49, of Toronto.

OPP investigators that continue to probe the cause of the crash will be assisted by a post-mortem of the deceased that will be conducted in the near future.

ORIGINAL STORY:
A wrong-way driver crashed into a truck pulling a travel trailer and was killed in a serious two-vehicle crash on Highway 400 early this morning.

Police say a southbound pickup truck and trailer were struck by northbound car in the southbound lanes of the busy highway.

The driver of the car was pronounced deceased at the scene and the driver of the pick-up truck was taken to an area hospital by paramedics for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries sustained in the crash.

The incident happened at about 1:30 a.m. on Highway 400 between Vasey Road and Highway 12 in Tay Township.

Southern Georgian Bay OPP officers responded to the incident along with Tay Township firefighters and County of Simcoe paramedics.

Highway 400 was shut down for several hours before reopening this morning at about 5:45 a.m. The southbound lanes, however, are still closed; police expect them to reopen by 11:30 a.m.
