Scarlet Park, situated on 88 acres of Lake Couchiching waterfront, is shown in this 1941 postcard.

Postcard Memories is a weekly series of historic postcard views and photos submitted by Marcel Rousseau.

Some were previously published by the Orillia Museum of Art and History and in the book Postcard Memories Orillia.

Scarlet Park was established in 1923 on 88 acres of Lake Couchiching waterfront north of Orillia. The property at one time was owned by the Pellett family of Casa Loma fame and later became part of the Goldstein farm before being developed into a cottage community.

Close to 90 cottages and a dance hall are located on this friendly, well-maintained property.

The roads shown in this 1941 photo are running parallel to the front doors of each cottage but have since been relocated to run behind each building, leaving a large common park area in front of each cottage.

The 88 acres are still privately owned and each cottage is individually owned on leased lots renewable in 2052.

Many generations of families continue to enjoy this three-season park located just a short commute to the Toronto area.
