Elizabeth Derhak is a "remarkable" community member who inspires others through her selfless acts of service.
As a mother of four, Derhak takes the time to teach her children the value of kindness by volunteering to help those in need.
From mowing lawns and shovelling driveways to helping neighbours with heavy groceries, Derhak and her family go the extra mile to lend a helping hand whenever an opportunity strikes.
“I know what it's like to not have help and how it can feel,” said Derhak. “I am trying to raise my kids to be kind to others and help if they can, so what better way than to show them by setting an example.”
“We can all learn from Elizabeth's example and strive to make a difference in our community, one small act of kindness at a time,” said Elizabeth’s nominator, Wilma Van Schelven.
OrilliaMatters was pleased to deliver a Random Act of Kindness surprise to Derhak, expressing our gratitude for her efforts in assisting others in our community.
“Her willingness to go above and beyond for her neighbours makes her truly exceptional,” said Schelven.
“I was extremely surprised and taken back by the nomination,” Derhak told OrilliaMatters. “At the end of the day, if I can make somebody smile that is all that matters.”
Thank you to our sponsors, Downtown Orillia, Coco’s Cookies and Little Ceasars for making this Random Act of Kindness possible.
