Eight new COVID-19 cases were reported in Simcoe County schools as of Monday morning.

One case has been reported at Hillcrest Public School in Barrie. One classroom has been closed.

Three cases have been reported at Innisfil Central Public School in Lefroy. No classrooms have been closed as a result of these cases.

Tay Shores Public School in Victoria Harbour is reporting two new cases. Two classrooms have been closed as a result.

Banting Memorial High School in Alliston is reporting one case, and two classrooms are now closed.

Bradford District High School is reporting a third active case (fourth overall since September), and a second classroom has been closed. The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit declared an outbreak at the school on Friday after reporting it was possible spread had occurred at the school.

Kathy Dermott, media co-ordinator with the health unit, said the new cases were contracted outside the school setting.

"If there had been epidemiological evidence (of) transmission within the school, they would be in outbreak," she said.

All schools remain open. The Simcoe County District School Board and the health unit have not reported whether the individuals are students or staff members.

The school board did not immediately return a request for comment on Monday morning.
