Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has confirmed a single new COVID-19 case in the region today.

The latest case is an Innisfil man between the ages of 35 and 44 years old. His case is reported as community-acquired.

The last case confirmed in Innisfil was reported July 23. There are now two people recovering from COVID-19 in Innisfil.

Yesterday, the health unit and Georgian College confirmed a COVID case in the college community. Neither provided details on the individual who tested positive.

For the first time in months, all previously-reported cases in Bradford West-Gwillimbury are now listed as recovered, leaving zero active, lab-confirmed cases.

However, the region's medical officer of health, Dr. Charles Gardner, said there's still every reason to keep practising public health measures such as physical distancing, frequent and proper handwashing, isolating yourself if you feel ill, and wearing a mask indoors where distancing is not possible.

He noted studies done so far using anti-body testing to determine immunity has shown a seroprevalence rate of about one per cent, meaning approximately one per cent of the population has antibodies against COVID-19.

Gardner said that means the infection rate has been about ten times what lab-testing has picked up, and it also means about 99 per cent of the population is "vulnerable" to the coronavirus.

"I think it's important for people to be aware ... that people fully appreciate the nature of the risk," said Gardner. "It's ongoing. They can never know for sure who has this and who doesn't."

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 670 cases of COVID-19 to date, with 638 of those cases located in Simcoe County.

There are 622 cases now recovered and 37 people have died in the region.

There are still 11 active cases in the county including residents from Barrie (4), Orillia (1), New Tecumseth (2), Innisfil (2), Essa (1), and Ramara (1). There is one active case in Muskoka. One person from New Tecumseth is hospitalized with COVID-19.

In Simcoe-Muskoka, the incidence rate for the coronavirus is 112.7 cases per 100,000 people in the population.
