It's too early to ease COVID-19 restrictions, mayor says

Orillia Mayor Steve Clarke urges patience in video message to citizens

Orillia Mayor Steve Clarke says he understands people's frustations about physical distancing restrictions and other prohibitions that have been put in place to slow the spread of the deadly coronavirus.

However, now is not the time to ease those restrictions, he said.

In his video message to the community, he explains the Emergency Management Committee's decision to extend the closure of sports fields, playgrounds and other city amenities until July 5. He also notes several community enhancement programs - such as free parking and free transit - have been extended.
