A Barrie jury has returned guilty verdicts against Christopher McCargar on three charges related to sex crimes against a child.

McCargar, 54, showed little emotion but could be seen shaking his head as the jury foreperson read out guilty verdicts on charges that included invitation to sexual touching and sexual interference.

The former nurse was found not guilty on a child-pornography charge.

The incident occurred about six years ago at a home just outside of Barrie, court heard.

Court heard evidence that McCargar showed the eight-year-old girl a pornographic video on his phone. According to the evidence, he then pulled out his penis and encouraged the child to mimic what he had shown her in the video.

The trial ran over two weeks and the jury returned its verdict in just a few hours.

McCargar, who was out on bail since being arrested in July 2022, will be sentenced later by Superior Court Madam Justice Jill C. Cameron.

Originally from Scarborough, McCargar had been the subject of a police search shortly after his arrest when he went missing in the Toronto area before he was found two days later.
