OrilliaMatters welcomes letters to the editor at [email protected] or via the website. Please include your full name, daytime phone number and address (for verification of authorship, not publication). The following is an open letter to Mayor Don McIsaac and city councillors:

I am writing to express my gratitude for the exceptional emergency response during the tragic multi-vehicle accident on Highway 11 last Friday, February 7, 2025.

During extremely challenging winter weather conditions, the coordinated efforts of Orillia’s emergency services and community organizations were remarkable.

The rapid response from the Ontario Provincial Police, Orillia Fire and Community Emergency Management Coordinator, the dedicated Orillia Emergency Services
Volunteers, Orillia Transit, and Simcoe County Paramedic Services was truly commendable. Your coordinated efforts ensured all accident victims were safely taken off the highway and provided for during a distressing time.

I am particularly thankful for the kindness shown at the Rotary Place, which provided us shelter, meals, and support until late in the evening when the accident scene was secured and our vehicles were towed to safety. This gesture of community solidarity and care made a significant difference during a difficult time.

Please convey my sincere appreciation to all those who assisted the accident victims.

Witnessing such dedication and compassion from your community leaders and emergency responders is reassuring.

Again, thank you for your hard work and commitment to our safety and well-being.
