The Liberal membership deadline is almost here.

As of last Wednesday’s deadline, the country now knows who is in the running for the federal Liberal party leadership. While Mark Carney and Chrystia Freeland are starting off as the frontrunners, the contest also includes Karine Gould, Jaime Battiste, Chandra Arya, Frank Baylis and Ruby Dhalla. We can expect to hear more from each of these candidates over the next few weeks of the short campaign.

The voting to determine which of the seven will lead the Liberal party into a spring election will take place on March 9. Only registered Liberals will have the opportunity to cast a vote for leader.

There is still a short window to become one of the people who will determine who that leader will be. Canadians have until this coming Monday, Jan. 27 at 5 p.m. to register as a Liberal member and thus give themselves a say in the leadership contest.

The process is simple. Just go to liberal.ca and complete the registration form before Monday’s deadline.

Applicants must be at least 14 years of age; be a Canadian citizen, have status under the Indian Act or be a permanent resident of Canada; and not be a member of any other federal political party in Canada.

Take part in your democracy with this important decision. Register today.
