Coping

She folded her wings carefully,
Noticed how fragile they were,
Needed them to be strong,
To protect the inner core,
Keep it safe, let it recover, let it strengthen again.

Turned inward to keep out the pain, the pity, the sadness
Which batters the ramparts and threatens the soul,
Time to withdraw,
To find that healing place.
Time to learn how to cope with major life-change,
Find the courage to battle the new world
In the limited time that is left
Find the courage to make the new journey fulfilling.

Pray the inward withdrawal accomplishes that dream.
