After 76 years McKevitt Trucking permanently parks its rigs

Company grew from a single truck in 1948 to one of the largest Canada/USA carriers that, at one point, boasted 165 tractors and 450 trailers

THUNDER BAY — A long-established trucking company headquartered in Thunder Bay has shut down.

Newswatch was unable to reach anyone from McKevitt Trucking management for comment, but according to employees, shipping operations were concluded on Oct. 31.

Staff are in the process of closing down offices across Ontario, and the company's website is no longer active.

In addition to its base on Carrick Street in Thunder Bay, McKevitt had facilities in Sault Ste. Marie, Timmins, Sudbury, North Bay and Mississauga.

It grew from a single truck at its inception in 1948 to one of the largest Canada/USA carriers in Northern Ontario, and at one point had 165 tractors and 450 trailers.
