NEWS RELEASE
BORN TO READ
********************
Skills for Success Day is Sept. 19, 2024.

Skills for Success Day is an annual initiative taking place each September to raise awareness about the key skills needed to succeed in learning, work and life. These skills, as identified by the Government of Canada are the foundation for learning all other skills and enable people to evolve with their jobs and adapt to change.

Each September, Skills for Success are emphasized. These skills are important for youth today for their success in work and life.

In this list of skills for success, the first skill is reading. Reading is the foundation of all other skills. Without the skill of reading, a young person will struggle in a changing world.

For this reason, the Born to Read committee emphasizes the importance of early literacy. Reading to babies is important.

Since 2017, our committee has been fund raising and in March, 2019 we began to give two new children’s books to each new baby born at Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital.

Along with these books is a brochure from the Orillia, Ramara or Severn Public Library to encourage the parents to join and discover the creative literacy programs for children and youth. To date, we have almost given out 5,000 packages of books.

If you would like to support this important work, you may donate in one of the following ways:
