BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF ORILLIA AND DISTRICT

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orillia and District (BBBSOD) staff and board members expect a strike at this year’s Bowl for Kids’ Sake.
BBBSOD is more than ready to bring back one of its most cherished events, with Bowl for Kids’ Sake running May 2, 4 and 5 Orillia Bowl and May 6 and 7 at the Coldwater Bowling Centre.
Bowl for Kids’ Sake is a pledge-based event which, in addition to raising funds, also raises awareness about Big Brothers Big Sisters and its mentoring programs. It sees businesses of all kinds hit the alleys to support a mutual cause.
All monies raised are designated toward the free mentoring programs BBBSOD provides to over 270 children and youth annually. BBBSOD’s goal this year is to reach more than 300 participants representing over 60 groups and/or businesses.
“This year’s event feels even more special after everything our organization has gone through during the pandemic,” says executive director Miranda Chaffey. “It is a celebration of the power of human connection and positive mentorship, alongside those in the community who have helped us overcome the past two-and-a-half years.”
This year’s theme is Blast from the Past. Teams can pick their decade and come dressed to impress, putting them in the running for various prizes. Prizes will also be awarded to top fundraisers and top team fundraisers, with new incentives being announced throughout April.
BBBSOD urges local businesses to get involved. Whether as a participating team or a sponsor, this year’s event will be one to remember. In the famous words of Smash Mouth, “Hey now, you're an all-star, get your game on, go play!”
