The Orillia Channel Cats Swim Club recently competed in the Victor Davis Long Course Invitational held in Guelph. Five long Course club records were broken.
Blythe Wieclawek (12) broke the 50, 100 and 200 meter backstroke records, as well as the 50 butterfly and teammate Hayley French (12) set a new record in the 200 Individual Medley.
“We wanted to attend a long course meet earlier this year so the swimmers gain more experience racing in a 50 meter pool,” said Head Coach Meredith Thompson-Edwards. “Blythe and Hayley breaking more records was a nice surprise as this meet was a training meet, one that the swimmers can try different events and racing strategies.”
Swimmers who participated include: Meagan Mackenzie, Tess Mackenzie, Flora Haslem, Nathan Mclinchey, Kait Madden, Jack Dilawri, Anna Holton, Fife Campbell, Jasmine Coleman, Alexander Baillie, Hayley French, Olivia Lepage, Ariel McGee, Caleb Near, Blythe Wieclawek, Meghan Rogers, Owen Wagner, Evan Wagner, Lillian Partridge, Grier Kershaw, Marit Kershaw, Evangeline Cooke, Declan Allin, Donovan Allin, Hannah Kennedy, Isabella Holmgren, Ava Holmgren, Peyton Nie, Hayden Nie, Brooklyn Paddon, Owen McCool, Holly McCool, Esmee Rosati, Chilyn Fenton, Hughie Edwards, Emily Gordon, Megan Widmer.
The Channel Cats will be competing at Huronia Short Course Regional Championships this weekend in Bracebridge where approximately 400 swimmers from our Region will be in attendance.
