A city councillor is hoping something can be done to provide a safe passage for pedestrians crossing a busy street.
Coun. Jay Fallis received support from his council committee colleagues this week to have staff look into the feasibility of a pedestrian crossing on Coldwater Road, somewhere between Emily and Cameron streets, to help pedestrians safely access the path to Park Street.
He said a resident contacted him about the matter.
“Their concern was there really isn’t a way of accessing the walkway if you’re on the other side of Coldwater without going down to the next intersection at Cameron or up the hill to the lights. There’s a big gap there,” Fallis said.
He noted staff had told him the crossing can’t be too close to the bottom of the hill at Coldwater Road and Emily Street, which is why they will be looking at the larger area between Emily and Cameron streets.
The pathway, Fallis said, is “pretty regularly travelled for a lot of students going to OSS (Orillia Secondary School) ...
“Just generally, it’s a walkway that is used a lot.”
Staff will report back on the matter at a later date.
