The Couchiching Conservancy is excited to announce two upcoming events focused on tackling invasive species and learning about our natural landscapes.
Whether you’re a seasoned conservationist or a curious beginner, these events offer a fantastic opportunity to get involved, gain new skills, and make a positive impact on our environment.
Dog-strangling vine pod-pulling event
On July 31, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., join the Couchiching Conservancy and the Nature Conservancy of Canada at Turnbull Ranch Nature Reserve for a dog-strangling vine (DSV) pod-pulling event. This hands-on activity will help combat the invasive DSV while providing an opportunity to learn plant species identification. Participation will contribute to protecting native plants and monarch butterflies from this invasive threat. Register here.
Beech leaf disease workshop
On Aug. 7, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., they are teaming up with the Invasive Species Centre for a workshop at Horseshoe Resort focused on beech leaf disease. This disease is posing a serious threat to beech trees across southern Ontario. During this one-day workshop, you’ll learn how to identify the disease and assist researchers in tracking its spread. This is a great chance to gain valuable skills and contribute to vital research. Register here.
Youth involvement
These events are a fantastic opportunity for youth interested in environmental initiatives to get involved.
