Persons may file a Nomination Paper to run for office in the 2018 Municipal Election starting on Tuesday, May 1, 2018. Those thinking about running for Council or School Board Trustee are encouraged to sign up for one of the free information sessions taking place on April 12, 2018.The Ministry of Municipal Affairs, in partnership with the City of Orillia and Townships of Oro-Medonte, Ramara, Severn, and Springwater, will be hosting sessions on Thursday, April 12, 2018, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Township of Oro-Medonte’s Council Chambers and at 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. that evening in the City of Orillia’s Council Chamber, located at 50 Andrew St. S., Orillia.

To register for the Township of Oro-Medonte session, individuals are asked to email Janette Teeter at [email protected] with their name, address and phone number or call 705-487-4028.  Citizens can also visit oro-medonte.ca for other election details.

To register for the City of Orillia session, individuals are asked to email Janet Nyhof at [email protected] with their name, address and phone number or call 705-325-2108.  Citizens can also visit orillia.ca/election2018 for other election details.

During these sessions, representatives from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs will present information and answer questions on various topics including eligibility to run for office, general campaign rules, election finances, and compliance audits.  The roles of Council, Head of Council, municipal staff, School Board Trustees, third party advertisers, proxies and scrutineers will also be explored in detail.

Candidates’ Information Guides will be available for all attendees outlining key timetables for the 2018 Municipal Election, campaign period requirements, election sign regulations, voting equipment and accessibility information.

The 2018 Municipal Election takes place on Monday, Oct. 22, 2018.
