Simcoe North MP Bruce Stanton and his wife, Heather, are hosting their annual Feast for Learning on Sept. 12 at the Moose Lodge in Orillia.

The event is a fundraiser for the Orillia and District Literacy Council.

It will include a reception, roast beef dinner, silent auction and “dignitary dessert dash.”

The silent auction and special draws will include prizes donated by local businesses, with all of the money from the auction and dinner going to the literacy council.

There will be seatings at 5 and 6:30 p.m.

Tickets cost $20 and are available at Stanton’s Orillia office in the Willow Court Plaza, 575 West St. S., Unit 12 (705-327-0513), and at the literacy council office at 55 Nottawasaga St. (705-327-1253).

The event supports amazing learners — people who are courageously looking to improve their essential literacy skills.

The Orillia and District Literacy Council, through its team of volunteer tutors and top-notch staff, helps people in our community get ahead.

They provide tailored sessions to help learners gain the basic skills they seek to further their employment, teach their own children, boost their confidence and bring hope and optimism, often in the face of difficult obstacles.

Anyone over the age of 19 is welcome to join any of their free learning programs.

The Council offers a comfortable place for student learning that includes:

  • Six individual study areas;
  • Computer lab with eight computers; and
  • Classroom
