GREEN HAVEN SHELTER FOR WOMEN

Green Haven Shelter for Women (GHSW) is announcing the launch of a diverse and inclusive colouring book titled Colours of Women.
This colouring book is meant to be an authentic representation of self-identifying women, as well as a source of relaxation and creative expression.
Kicking off the concept announcement with a colouring contest at the Orillia Public Library, participants and visitors can stop in to get an idea of what they might find inside the book on June 16 at 10:30 a.m.
“We searched for a diverse colouring book for women during our International Women’s Day event, but had no success. So, we decided to make our own. We want to create something beautiful that represents women from all walks of life,” said Natalie Harris, community development manager with GHSW.
These colouring books will represent women of all bodies, life stages, races, cultures, gender identities, physical health issues, mental health illnesses, and all aspects of a woman’s identity. With the support of Wintertickle Press, GHSW will publish colouring books and sell them both in person and online, with every dollar earned going directly to the programs and services they offer to survivors of gender-based violence.
“Our goal is that when a woman opens this book, she will find herself somewhere inside. Representation in the media can change lives and we hope to be a part of that change and empower women,” said Harris.
GHSW is putting out a call for artists who would like to contribute to this project and have their work showcased inside the Colours of Women colouring book. Artists of all backgrounds are encouraged to submit an application by July 20, 2023. Completed works are not required at this time.
