Health unit looking for interested hosts for pop-up vaccine clinics

As mass immunization clinics shut down, the health unit is transitioning to smaller-sized clinics for local communities

The health unit is continuing its plan to close mass immunization clinics by the end of the month, but will still be administering vaccines through pop-up clinics.

By the end of August, the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit anticipates it will have provided two doses of a vaccine against COVID-19 to about 75 per cent of the people who are currently eligible for immunization.

Vaccines will still be available at local pharmacies and through some primary care providers. There will be some school clinics run by the health unit with local school boards, but details are still pending for those events.

Currently, the health unit is looking for partners to host pop-up immunization clinics throughout Simcoe County and Muskoka.

Groups or event organizers who are interested in hosting a pop-up clinic can email the health unit ([email protected]) with the organization’s contact information and a clinic date and time preference.

To host a clinic, the health unit asks for a few tables and chairs, a power outlet, and, ideally, protection from weather elements.

Not all requests will be accommodated, but the health unit is interested in reaching communities with the pop-up clinics.

The mass immunization clinics currently in operation will close by late August. Anyone with an appointment after Aug. 27 will be notified by email and encouraged to move up their appointments or attend a walk-in clinic.

The walk-in clinic schedule is posted to the health unit website here.

The 29 Sperling Drive clinic in Barrie will remain open for appointments or walk-ins until the end of September.
