The art in public places committee (APPC) invites artists to submit artwork for consideration for an upcoming public art exhibit at the Stack Gallery in the Orillia Recreation Centre, 255 West St. S., and the Green Room Gallery at the Orillia Opera House, 20 Mississaga St. W.

The natural beauty of Orillia and its surrounding areas has served as a rich source of inspiration for many Canadian artists such as David Beckett and Youdan Stanton. Through this upcoming exhibit, the APPC invites artists to interpret the theme Orillia Landscapes and explore Orillia’s landscapes, urbanscapes, and/or waterscapes through an artistic and creative lens.

“Orillia’s rich landscapes have long inspired artists, and I am eager to see how our local talent will capture these vistas in the upcoming exhibitions,” said Mayor Don McIsaac. “This exhibit provides a unique opportunity to celebrate and reinterpret the natural beauty and character of our community through artistic expression.”

The call to artists is open to those who work or reside in the City of Orillia, Chippewas of Rama First Nation, or the townships of Oro-Medonte, Ramara or Severn. New or existing works of art will be accepted. The deadline for submissions is Nov. 1, 2024. The exhibit will run from December 2024 to June 2025.

“We are excited to announce the call to artists for Orillia Landscapes, an exhibit designed to showcase and celebrate the stunning natural beauty and dynamic artistic spirit of our city,” said Donald Brommet, APPC member. “With the expansion to include the Green Room Gallery at the Orillia Opera House, this exhibit will now reach an even broader audience, making it a truly inclusive cultural experience for our entire community.”

The APPC is a partnership between the Orillia Museum of Art & History and the City of Orillia. The committee manages the city’s public art program including the Stack Gallery and the Green Room Gallery at the Orillia Opera House.
