BRIDGET'S BUNNIES

As many small businesses struggle to get by, Bridget’s Bunnies is thankful that three such businesses stepped up to ensure that 2020 ended on a high note for our organization.
For two weekends in December, The Vintage Pony, Jay’s Sticky Buns and Chocolate Bombastic teamed up for a pair of hot chocolate walks to raise money and awareness for pregnancy and infant loss. Over the two days, the restriction-adherent events raised $1,335
Kerry Howard – the owner of The Vintage Pony in Oro-Medonte Township – said she and her husband were looking for a way to give back since moving to Barrie from the United Kingdom back in 2018. Howard said Bridget’s story struck a chord since they also suffered a similar loss.
“Losing our daughter McKenzie Rose was such an emotional part of our life 19 years ago,” said Howard. “Like Mat and Theresa, we wanted to help make sure other families were supported. Doing these events was a way to give back.”
The events were also an opportunity to start a conversation about pregnancy and infant loss, and the supports that are available, including Bridget’s Bunnies’ comfort kits.
“In those first few days it’s so important for families experiencing a loss to feel that they are not alone and that there is help whenever needed,” said Howard.

About the kits
Bridget’s Bunnies kits include hand and foot molds to create lasting memories, books on grief and infant loss, stuffed bunnies for both the baby and parents, and other essentials.
Since 2018, Bridget’s Bunnies has delivered nearly 200 comfort kits to hospitals in the Barrie area for families who experience pregnancy or infant loss. The kits are intended to provide gentle direction and lots of compassion, and have been curated by Theresa and Mat Morrison. The couple was inspired by their beautiful baby, Bridget Bell who was born still just one day shy of her due date, following a healthy pregnancy.
Presently, kits are available at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre and the Stevenson Memorial Hospital. Bridget’s Bunnies plans to expand to the Georgian Bay General Hospital in the spring of 2021.
