Realtor, taxi company offering local seniors free rides to vaccinations

'We want to make sure the most vulnerable can get their injection, and for some, there is no way to get out to the Rotary Place,' says realtor

Kevin Wood, realtor at Century 21, and John Beck, owner of Able Taxi, are offering free rides for seniors who need to get to Rotary Place to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

Able Taxi is partnering with Kevin Wood, a realtor at Century 21, to offer free cab fare for seniors who need a ride to and from Rotary Place to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

John Beck, the owner of Able Taxi, says it’s important to support area seniors during the pandemic.

“I feel like the seniors have suffered more than anybody besides small businesses," said Beck. "They haven’t been able to visit loved ones, they haven’t been able to see their grandchildren or their own children, so being in a small community this seemed like the best way we could help our seniors.”

Beck says he’s heard of some communities busing in seniors to get the vaccine, but he wanted to offer local seniors a safer option.

“When the car is done with the ride, it gets sanitized and wiped down. We just bought 40 litres of hand sanitizers and chemical cleaners to scrub the cabs down after each ride,” he explained.

“Especially with all the variants now, we want to keep everyone safe.”

Kevin Wood says his team at Century 21 was happy to partner with Able Taxi as they want to see seniors get to and from their vaccination safely.

“We want to make sure the most vulnerable can get their injection, and for some, there is no way to get out to the Rotary Place,” he explained.

Wood says offering seniors a safe and free ride is a way to give back to a community that has supported the Century 21 team throughout the pandemic.

“We’ve been busy and have been keeping busy during the whole pandemic, so we decided to give back to the community,” he said.

Seniors can take advantage of the free cab fare program until at least the end of the month, and possibly longer if Able Taxi is still experiencing a high demand of seniors who need a ride.

Seniors can book their free ride by calling Able Taxi at (705) 325-0632.
