The Robert L. Bowles Nature Centre invites families to a fun-filled Family Day event on Saturday, Feb. 17, from noon to 3 p.m. The event will take place at the centre, located at 1296 Concession Road 10, and promises a range of outdoor activities to enjoy the winter season.
Families can gather around a bonfire, try snowshoeing, skate, go tobogganing, or build snowmen.
Michael Elmer, who co-owns the centre with his partner, June, says the event is all about community connection.
“We just want to spread some awareness about the centre,” Elmer explained. “We thought this would be something nice we could do for people and their whole family.”
The event is free, and everyone is welcome to attend. Guests are encouraged to bring their own snacks or lunch, while the facility will provide complimentary hot chocolate to keep everyone warm.
At 1 p.m., master naturalist Bob Bowles will lead a nature walk, offering insights into winter themes, moose tracks, and tree identification. Bowles, with over 75 years of experience educating others about the environment, adds a unique educational element to the day.
“We actually had a moose hanging out with us here this morning,” Elmer noted, emphasizing the centre’s goal of fostering a deeper connection with nature.
Located on a 100-acre property surrounded by 300 acres of wetlands, the Robert L. Bowles Nature Centre is dedicated to educating visitors about nature and the environment. The site features groomed trails, wildlife viewing opportunities, and programming like yoga, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing.
“It will be nice to catch some fresh air and learn about our programming here,” Elmer said. “We encourage everyone to spend Family Day outdoors with us.”
