NEWS RELEASE
MARIPOSA ARTS THEATRE
*************************
Mariposa Arts Theatre’s (MAT) Film Nights wraps up its highly successful fall season on Wednesday, Dec. 4 with Sing Sing, a moving celebration of art’s redemptive power.
Sing Sing will screen at Orillia Galaxy Cinemas at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Sing Sing is set in New York’s notorious maximum-security correctional facility, where convicts find purpose in acting in a theatre group alongside other incarcerated men. Based on a true story, the movie stars an unforgettable ensemble of professional actors, including Oscar nominees Colman Domingo and Paul Raci, alongside former members of the program. Audiences and critics alike praise the film for its powerful acting and its moving combination of darkness with flashes of humour. Filmed at the actual prison itself, Sing Sing finds compassion and beauty even in a harsh environment.
Since 1996 MAT’S Film Nights has been bringing outstanding films to Orillia audiences through its connection with the Toronto International Film Festival. The 300 films screened so far have included dramas, comedies, adventures, and documentaries from Canada, the U.S.A., the U.K., and dozens of countries around the world. Tickets for Sing Sing go on sale at Orillia Galaxy Cinemas Dec. 4 from 3 to 4 p.m., and again from 6 to 7 p.m. Tickets cost $10 general admission, $5 students, payable by cash, credit or debit.
