A Wasaga Beach man has warmer climes on his mind after winning $100,000 with Encore in the Dec. 11 Lotto 6/49 draw.
Gordon Wheller, a retiree, matched the last six of seven Encore numbers in exact order.
“I’d just left a medical appointment when I made a quick stop at the gas station. While I was there, I decided to use the ticket checker to see how I did on my tickets,” he said in an OLG news release. “The first two weren’t winners, but when I scanned the third one, I saw the message ‘Big Winner’ and ‘$100,000.’ I think my heart just about stopped.”
He asked the clerk to scan the ticket to be sure.
“We were both stunned when the lottery terminal froze,” Wheller said. “I phoned my sister right away. She was surprised I was calling, since we’d spoken just a few hours before. When I shared the good news, she began to scream into the phone.”
Winning big “is a pretty cool feeling,” the father and grandfather added.
“This prize is going to be a great help. I look forward to travelling to Costa Rica, Portugal and Thailand.”
The winning ticket was purchased at Jay’s Gas Bar & Variety on Mosley Street in Wasaga Beach.
