New Asian food restaurant serving an 'experience' downtown

'The entire atmosphere makes the experience about more than just the food,' says general manager

Bali Breeze Seafood and Bar is bringing authentic Asian flavours to Orillia.

The restaurant officially opens July 22 but is now open during select hours with a trial menu at 28 Mississaga St. E.

“We have a lot of different Asian fusion foods,” says general manager Jane Ren. “Thai flavours or South Asian flavours will be most prominent. Chinese and Japanese flavours second, combined with North and South American styles.”

Bali Breeze hopes to become a popular breakfast spot, offering an alternative option to traditional breakfast joints in the city. They serve a dim sum Hong Kong-style brunch with morning tea.

“Western people enjoy the food we make, and some people will even drive 200 to 300 kilometres ... for true Asian food,” said Ren.

While there are sushi and Chinese restaurants in Orillia, she says nothing compares to Bali Breeze.

“Chinese and Asian food should be cooked freshly like it is here,” she said. “We have a really good dine-in experience here, too.”

Ren says eating at Bali Breeze is a full experience that will keep food lovers coming back for more.

“We have a really good bar,” she said. “The entire atmosphere makes the experience about more than just the food.”

Bali Breeze is in the same spot as the former Golden Dragon Restaurant, which closed in 1999 after 60 years in business, and, more recently, Ace Chinese.

“We changed and renovated the building a lot. It’s totally different,” said Ren.
