Orillia OPP say there is no concern for public safety after a man was found dead outside a unit at the Couchiching Co-Operative Thursday morning.

Police are releasing few details about the incident.

According to a news release issued Friday evening, a 24-year-old man was found dead outside the 60 Fittons Rd. W. affordable housing complex, just east of the intersection with Park Street.

"The cause of death is unconfirmed and still under investigation," Orillia OPP Const. Martin Hill told OrilliaMatters Saturday.

He revealed the deceased male was found by friends at about 5:50 a.m. on Thursday morning.

While he could not provide details, Hill said there were "no obvious signs of violence" at the scene. He added: "There are no public safety issues."

Hill said the investigation by the Orillia OPP Crime Unit and Central Region Forensic Identification Services, under the direction of Det. Insp. Matt Watson of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, is ongoing.

There was a police presence at the complex overnight Friday, but as of Saturday at about mid-day, there were no OPP officers or vehicles at the scene.
