The Couchiching Conservancy is excited to announce the opening of its 2025 volunteer recruitment, running from Jan. 20 to Feb. 2. This is an opportunity for individuals passionate about conservation and nature to join a dedicated team working to protect natural spaces in the Couchiching region.

Volunteers play a vital role in preserving over 14,935-acres (6,044-hectares) of protected land, whether through community science programs, trail and footpath stewardship, or ambassador outreach. This year, the Conservancy is offering diverse opportunities for involvement, ensuring there’s a role for everyone interested in making a difference.

Recruitment Opens: Jan. 20, 2025

Featured volunteer job opportunities include:

Ambassadors: Represent the Conservancy at events, markets, and trailheads to share information about our mission, engage with the community, and inspire others to support conservation efforts. Ambassadors help with outreach, answer questions, and encourage involvement. Training is provided, and shifts are flexible to fit your schedule.

Invasive Species: Invasive Species team Assist with mapping and removing invasive plants using our Landscape app. Tasks include hiking, vegetation removal, and working outdoors in various conditions. Some work may be physically demanding, but it plays a vital role in protecting native ecosystems and ensuring healthy habitats for wildlife.

Monarch Monitoring: Volunteers are assigned a patch of milkweed to survey for monarch eggs and caterpillars. Volunteers report on the characteristics of the milkweed patch and the number of monarchs counted.

Water team – Water Level monitoring: Check water levels at a wetland at a Couchiching Conservancy Nature Reserve. This information will help advice the stewardship activities of Conservancy staff.
