EMPTY REGALIA

Creating a voice for Indigenous Women, Empty Regalia, is a play created, written and performed by Ziigwen Mixmong about murdered and Indigenous women.
The play opens with a young Indigenous girl having to hear the voices of stereotypes, hatred, racism, ignorance and fear engulf her being and reduce her to another statistic.
“I’m passionate about bridging the gap between mainstream and Indigenous through theatre and art, as this acts as a safe medium to have these kinds of connections while bringing Indigenous issues to the forefront,” said Ziigwen Mixmong, Writer, Empty Regalia.
The play will be live at the Orillia Opera House May 15, 2019 at 7 p.m.
Tickets are still available and can be purchased at the door or online at www.orilliaoperahouse.ca or by calling the box office at 705-325-2153.
The proceeds raised from the play will be used to fund the new Greenhaven Women’s Shelter.
“Approximately 25 per cent of the clients of Greenhaven self-identify as Indigenous,” states Liz Westcott, Executive Director of Greenhaven.
“The play creates a voice for women lives and lived realities, which have often been silenced, to be shared in a forum which allows for learning, discussion and change,” says Ligaya Byrch, Producer, Empty Regalia.
