NEWS RELEASE
SIMCOE COUNTY DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD
**************************
The Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) prioritizes the safety of students and staff and is committed to creating inclusive school and work environments where everyone feels a sense of belonging.

The SCDSB believes in working with the community on strategies that will continue to keep schools safe, address challenging behaviours, and ultimately reduce incidents of violence affecting SCDSB schools.

In February 2024, the SCDSB board of trustees approved a motion to establish a safe schools committee. The committee will act in an advisory capacity to recommend strategies, identify available resources, identify funding opportunities, and recommend programs and services to enhance school safety.

The SCDSB is seeking up to three parents/guardians and up to four individuals representing community organizations/associations to serve as committee members on the new safe schools committee. Applications will be accepted from Sept. 24 to Oct. 7.

Parent/guardian applicants must:

  • have a child who currently attends a SCDSB school
  • reside within Simcoe County

Applicants from community organizations/associations shall reflect and embody the SCDSB strategic priorities. Applicants will represent groups that have historically experienced barriers to equal access, opportunities, and resources, and represent one or more of the following:

  • social service agencies
  • organizations working with students and youth
  • agencies supporting Indigenous youth

The safe schools committee will meet four times during the 2024-25 school year. Meetings will be held in person at the SCDSB Education Centre, located at 1170 Hwy 26, Midhurst. The first meeting will occur in early November. Committee members are asked to serve an 18-month term. The terms of reference for the safe schools committee are available on the Board and Committee Meetings page on the SCDSB website under ‘Committee Descriptions.’

Apply to be a member of the SCDSB safe schools committee.

Committee members will be selected at random from the pool of parent/guardian and community applicants on Oct. 9. Only those selected will be notified.
