Orillia’s Experience Nissan Kings Jr B Lacrosse Team Update
On May 17 the Orillia Experience Nissan Kings Jr. B squad earned their first win of the Ontario Lacrosse Association season, beating the Brampton Excelsiors by a score of 18-7 at Rotary Place. '
The team was firing on all cylinders, flooring probably their strongest lineup of the season. Top point-getters were Dallin Blunt (4 goals 5 assists), Braydon Hickey (2 goals and 7 assists), Zac Gignac (4 goals and 4 assists) and Cole Hanrahan (5 goals and 2 assists).
The next night the Kings travelled to Halton Hills to face the Bulldogs where they came up on the short end of a 13 -6 score. Blunt agains was strong, tallying three goals and three assists. Andrew Maltby netted two goals and added an assist, while Gabe Neely scored once and set up another.
Four nights later, the team traveled to West Durham to face the Ironheads, turning in a good effort with only 15 runners instead of the usual 18 players. The Kings kept it close throughout the contest trailing 4-1 after one period, 6-3 after 2 and losing a close one, 8-5.
Top point-getters were Noah Quarrington (2 goals and 1assist), Hickey (1 goal and 2 assists), Hanrahan (1 goal and 1 assist) and Andrew Maltby (1 goal.)
Despite their improved play of late, the Kings record is 1-11 and they are near the bottom of the standings.
The local squad hopes to record its second win of the season tonight when they host the Mimico Mountaineers in a 8 p.m. contest at Rotary Place. Mimico also only has one win this season.
Orillia Minor Lacrosse Association players are encouraged to attend the Orillia Kings Kids/Family Night contest tonight wearing their jerseys and Kings gear. There will be prizes up for grabs.
On Friday night, the Kings will host the Orangeville Northmen at Rotary Place. Game time is 8 p.m.
