NEWS RELEASE
ORILLIA LAKERS
*************************
On Jan. 18 and 19 the Orillia Lakers U14 girls basketball team showcased their hard work by winning five straight games and capturing gold at the Barrie Royals Invitational Basketball Tournament.
The girls took the lead from the tip-off of each game, leading each contest from start to finish.
In the semifinals, the Lakers matched up against the London Ramblers, using a strong transition offence to earn a spot in the final with a 41-33 victory.
The win against London set up a regional showdown with the Barrie Royals in the championship game. The tension in the gym was high, and the game was close, but the Lakers battled with quick ball movement and timely shooting to secure a 33-24 win.
The Lakers’ next action is in Oshawa on Jan. 25, when they resume their Ontario Basketball League season.
The team would like to thank their sponsors for making these games possible: Wes’ Tree Service Inc., Tatham Engineering, Core Refrigeration Inc., Morgan Planning, and Cody Burnett.
Team members are Kennedy Sheppard, Lacey Pollock, Brooke Dickson, Sapora Mercieca, Bray LaChapelle, Leiah Krynicki, Sarah Abdulrahman, Anabel Forigo, Karstin Picken, Emily Bell and Wynn Morgan. Coaches are Jamie Bell and Josh Morgan.
Congratulations, girls.
