The Orillia Lawn Bowling Club held a traditional Wear Your Whites Fun Day on Sept. 11 with the help of generous sponsorship from our local Home Hardware.

Players were teamed up for three games of New Zealand pairs. New Zealand pairs is a game of beat the clock, in which teams of two face one another and try to get in as many ends as possible within a one-hour time frame, only one point scored for each end won.

Lots of scurrying up and down the green evoked lots of laughter along the way.

Players were entertained with a lunchtime concert put on by the combined efforts of the Lawn Bowling and West Shore (of Couchiching) Uke Groups. The entertainment was supplemented by a sing-along to such old-time favourites as These Boots Are Made for Walkin’ and A White Sport Coat (and a Pink Carnation). See photos for special performers featured in these two numbers.

The weather was fabulous, and all in all, it was just a glorious late summer day.

Sept. 5 Aussie pairs tournament

The Ontario Lawn Bowling Club Aussie pairs tournament attracted players from Midland, Collingwood, Bracebridge/Muskoka, Lindsay, and Oshawa. Aussie pairs entails the skip and the lead swapping positions each end, taking turns throwing lead-off and end-ending bowls.
