The Orillia National Nutrition senior softball squad is off to another strong start in the Simcoe Muskoka Senior Sortball League with a 9-1 record, their only loss on opening day to rival Barrie Kage.

National Nutrition came out swinging earlier this week against Barrie, winning game one of the doubleheader, 14-2. Leading the way for Orillia was Derrick Lafleur with a home run and triple while Brian Gardy and Peter Newman were perfect at the plate. Rob Milligan and Wayne Martin shared pitching duties for the win.

Game two was a little closer affair with National Nutrition pulling out a 10-6 victory. Brent Ziliotto and Randy Ley were perfect at the plate while Milligan and Martin kept rival Barrie at bay behind some stellar defensive plays including three double plays by the infield and two outfield assists from Dave Clark.

National Nutrition travels to Perkinsfield next week to face the Huronia senior BlueJays, returning home to Tudhope Park on July 9 to face the Wasaga Beach senior squad.

The senior team features players who range in age from 55 to 77 and compete against teams from Muskoka, Wasaga Beach, Midland/Penetang, Barrie Blue and Barrie Kage.

The senior team is in its 15th year, winning 12 championships with a year off due to COVID. The Barrie Kage team won the other two league championships.
