An intense battle for control in front of the net as the Orillia Lady Kings opened their season with games in Kitchener.

The Ontario Women's Field lacrosse season is now in full swing.

All five teams from the Orillia Lady Kings recently travelled to Kitchener for their first games of the season.

The U19 -1 team, sponsored by Second Century Source for Sports, dominated St. Catharines in a 14-2 victory to begin their season. Brooklyn Barker led the charge with an impressive six goals, supported by Hannah Rudge with four goals, and contributions from Ava Rouse, Mira Cresanto, Kady Shelswell, and Isabella Cerpnjak. Ali Rolston's stellar performance in goal, backed by solid defence, secured the win.

The second game was a nail-biter against rivals Oshawa Lady Blue Knights, ending in a 9-7 loss for the Lady Kings. Ava Rouse tallied four goals, supported by Olivia Glass and Mira Cresanto.

The Dan Parnell Royal LePage Orillia U15 Lady Kings faced off against the Kitchener-Waterloo Kodiaks and the Oakville Lady Hawks in their first games of the season.

Saturday afternoon, Morgan Parnell and Billie Rouse each had an unassisted goal. Unfortunately, the girls came up short and lost the game to the Kodiaks, 15-2.

Game two had the U15 Lady Kings facing off against the mighty Oakville Lady Hawks. Despite strong offence, the girls lost 11-6. Molly Bergeron scored four goals with singles scored by Billie Rouse and Ryleigh McGuire. Assists were made by Elyse Faulkner and Chloe Weiler.

Although losing both of their games, the girls fought hard and worked as a team. Coaches Amelia Obee and Anna Lajoie were proud of how the girls played and are looking forward to seeing what next weekend brings.

In their opening weekend, the Champlain Ready Mix U-13 girls faced off Kitchener Waterloo 1 and St Catharines 1. Against Kitchener, the girls had a slow start but began to pick up the pace in the third quarter. With great effort by Sienna Cryer who scored all four goals, the girls couldn’t come up with the win with a final score of 14-4.

Next, the girls faced St. Catharines. In this hard-fought game the Lady Kings took the loss 11-6 with goals scored by Kyah Thompson (2), Sienna Cryer (2), and Kylie Homan (2). Avery Saunders took the loss in the net.

On Sunday morning, the U11 Lady Kings began their opening weekend facing Oshawa Lady Blue Knights 1. The girls fought hard but weren’t able to come up with
the win in this 14-2 loss. Goals were scored by Ali Almeida (1) and Isabella Beaudin (1). Goal was played by Isabelle Ouellette-Darling.

In game 2 versus Kawartha Lacrosse 1, the Lady Kings were out-scored 18-11. Rebekah Lacroix and Brielle Hodgkinson-Armstrong led the scoring with four (4)
goals each, Violet Whelan (2) and Isabella Beaudin (1) .The team pushed hard but fell short in the end. Despite the scores, Yvonne Lee had a strong outing in goal.

The U9 Lady Kings, sponsored by BMO Nesbit-Burns, had an amazing day Sunday in Waterloo. For some of these littles it was their first ever rep lacrosse game.
Matilda Walker stood tall between the posts to help keep her team in the game. Despite the girls' effort and energy, Orillia lost 11-4 against Owen Sound. Two goals came from Norah Belviso, and singles were tallied by Audrey Gammon and Zoey Beaudin.

The local girls started to get the hang of it and with the strong and fierce Baileigh Brain in net, Orillia won its second game, 10-3, against Newmarket. Beaudin led the scoring with five goals, followed by Anna Hunter and Norah Whelan, each with a pair, and Norah Belviso a single. These little kids had a lot of fun, hustled hard and learned a lot as a team.
