The aquatic area at the Orillia Recreation Centre will be closing next month for regularly scheduled maintenance.
Christine Wareing, aquatic and fitness supervisor with the City of Orillia, says the natatorium will be closed from Aug. 17 to Sept. 14.
"This maintenance is necessary to ensure the long-term functionality of the pools and associated equipment," she said.
The maintenance involves draining and cleaning the lap, leisure and therapy pools. Preventative maintenance will also take place, including cleaning under the movable floor and ensuring all equipment is operating at "peak capacity."
"Conducting any repairs and maintenance on all the pools at once allows for more efficient work to occur," Wareing said.
When open, the Orillia Recreation Centre sees 1,500 to 2,000 people per day. Typically, the pool is operational daily with programming from 5:45 a.m. until 9 p.m.
While some swimmers will be missing the aquatic area during the closure, Wareing says usage is lower in the summer months.
"The City of Orillia also worked with the impacted user groups to find the most ideal time frame to perform the annual maintenance based on their schedules," she said.
The annual scheduled maintenance ensures a longer life span for all of the pools at the Orillia Recreation Centre.
"This period allows us to implement any repairs and enhancements uniformly across all pools, ensuring a consistent and improved experience for all users," Wareing said.
