Owen Kaczanowski had a strong start on the mound for the Orillia Royals Thursday night, keeping the visitors to one hit and zero runs over four innings in a 10-0 victory for the home side at Tudhope Park.

The Wes Brennan Construction Jr. Royals easily handled the last-place visiting Richmond Hill Phoenix on Thursday night in Orillia, earning a 10-0 win in a five-inning game shortened due to the mercy rule.

Owen Kaczanowski had a great start on the mound, limiting the visitors to just one hit and zero runs over four innings, while Emmit McDonald pitched a solid three-up-and-three-down last inning.

The Royals were solid on defence, not making a single error.

The offence exploded early with five runs in the first and cruised to the victory. Hits were tallied by Kaczanowski (2), Nolan MacNeal (2), Teddy McCollum-Kuntz, Andrew Browne, James Pritchard, Jhett Winkel, Whyatt Winkel and Will Timpano.

With the win, the Royals clinched a North Dufferin Baseball League playoff berth while remaining tied for second place.

Orillia's next game is Sunday in Creemore against the first-place Padres.
