Jhett Winkel kicked off the Royals' comeback with a double on Sunday.

The Wes Brennan Construction JR Royals had an incredible comeback in Creemore on Sunday against the first-place Padres.

The Royals were down 5-1 in the last inning, with one out and nobody on base, when the bats came alive with consecutive hits from Jhett Winkel, Nate Molloy, Whyatt Winkel, Teddy MCCollum-Kuntz, Nolan Ness-Thomas, James Pritchard, Nolan MacNeal, Andrew Browne and Gabe Rutherford to plate seven runs and take an 8-5 lead, leaving the home team and crowd stunned at the turn of events.

Nolan MacNeal came out and finished a complete game start as well as going 4-for-4 at the plate to win player-of-the-game honours.

The win clinched second place for the Royals in the regular season and they now have a first-round bye as they await their second-round opponent.

The Royals have one game remaining, which will take place in Innisfil on Monday, July 15, but the third-place Barrie Baycats ran out of games to catch the Royals.
