Royals stay perfect, sweep past visiting Orangeville in doubleheader

Nolan MacNeal had a strong game on the mound to help the Royals beat Orangeville 8-3 on Sunday; it was the first of two wins for Orillia in the doubleheader sweep.

The Wes Brennan Construction Orillia Jr. Royals beat the last-place Orangeville Bengals in both games Sunday at the Jerry Udell diamond at Tudhope Park in Orillia.

Game 1 saw the Royals erase an early 2-0 Bengals' lead with eight unanswered runs in the bottom of the first and second innings en route to a convincing 8-3 win over the visiting squad.

The Royals started the bottom of the second with an incredible seven consecutive singles and easily held on. Hits were recorded by Chase Brennan (3), Whyatt Winkel (3), Jhett Winkel (2), Nathan Molloy, Teddy Mccolum Kuntz, Nolan MacNeal and Reece Boyle.

MacNeal settled down after allowing two runs in the first with four strikeouts to gain the win, while Kobe Geofroy pitched two solid scoreless innings for the save.

Game 2 again started with the Bengals scoring the first run, but the Royals scored three in the second to take the lead before an explosive fourth where the Royals scored 11 runs, sending 15 players to the plate for a 14-1 mercy win. Hits were recorded by James Pritchard (3), Gefroy, J. Winkel, Whyatt Winkel and McCollum-Kuntz.

James Pritchard plunked the first batter who later scored, but then settled in to pitch a gem for the victory. He recorded four strikeouts to go with his three hits in the game to lead both the defence and offence.

Emmit MacDonald slammed the door in relief for the Royals.

The Royals Next home game is Thursday, June 13 at 8 p.m. against Richmond Hill where they will look to remain undefeated on the season.
