My name is Gary Hetherington and I’m running for Ramara Township Ward 4 councillor.
My introduction to this community began in 1956 when my parents purchased a cottage on Lake Dalrymple. I grew up spending summers on the lake and in the surrounding area, and moved here permanently in 2006. I am a full-time resident who retired from Hydro One in 2008 after a rewarding 25-year career in Corporate Security where I was able to hone my communication and conflict resolution skills.
After retirement, I was hired by the Township of Ramara on a part-time basis as a Building Maintenance Administrator where I learned firsthand the ins and outs of how the township is run, including developing relationships with current council members and other stakeholders.
I retired from the Township in January 2018, and when the opportunity to run for council presented itself, I knew it was something I had to do.
I have a passion for this community. I’ve seen many changes in my years here, and would like to see even more. My priorities as a councillor are:
- Protecting the environment by revisiting the soil bylaw to add safeguards in an effort to prevent contaminated soil from entering our community.
- Upgrading the roads in our township to make traveling in the community safer for everyone.
- Working towards bringing natural gas and high speed internet to the area.
- Involving the private sector to build a skate park for our youth.
I am dedicated to the proud history and progressive future of this community and pledge to be your voice on council. I would love the opportunity to speak with you in person or over the phone to discuss any concerns you may have.
