An Innisfil man has been arrested in connection to a homicide in British Columbia.

South Simcoe Police Service was contacted Tuesday by the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team in Surrey, B.C., about a murder suspect believed to be in southern Simcoe County.

The investigation led police to a location in Innisfil, where the suspect was located in a vehicle. Police conducted surveillance on the suspect and later arrested him without incident in Richmond Hill.

Yusuf Kontos, 25, was wanted for the first-degree murder of a man, and the attempted murder of a woman, following a shooting in Surrey on Feb. 8, 2022, South Simcoe police said in a news release.

Kontos will be returned to British Columbia to face charges.

According to a Jan. 25 media release from the homicide investigation team, Surrey RCMP responded to the shooting, locating two victims inside a vehicle — 24-year-old Juvraj Jabal and 20-year-old Jasmine Lindstrom. They had sustained gunshot wounds.

They were transported to hospital, where Jabal later succumbed to his injuries.

“This was a two-year-long investigation, in which we utilized every tool at our disposal to locate Kontos,” homicide investigation team Sgt. Timothy Pierotti said in a statement.

“(The team) will continue to be relentless when it comes to bringing those responsible for senseless homicides to justice. We’re thankful as always for our partners at the Surrey RCMP detachment and the South Simcoe Police Service for their ongoing support during this investigation.”
