A Midland resident is facing charges after allegedly fleeing a RIDE program.

Ontario Provincial Police were set up on Heritage Drive between King Street and William Street late Sunday when a vehicle approached, then veered off into a factory parking lot.

“The driver fled the scene by running through the factory building and through investigation the driver was identified along with the rightful owner of the vehicle which was towed from the parking lot,” OPP said in a news release.

Just before 1:30 a.m. Monday, 25-year-old Jacob Thomas Wallis of Midland was arrested then charged with:

  • Failure to comply with release order - other than to attend court
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 - in Canada

The Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment launched its Festive RIDE program on November 21.

Since then, they’ve set up along roads and trails at 105 separate locations in North Simcoe, stopping over 1,570 vehicles, 44 snow machines and checking drivers for signs of impairment.
