A man has been arrested in the case of an arson involving an animal last month in downtown Orillia.

On Sept. 16 at 5 p.m., emergency crews were called to the intersection of Colborne and West streets, where they found a dead animal and an accelerant nearby.

On Sept. 19, police received video footage of a person leaving the area at about 4:50 p.m. Before the incident, he was seen on the south side of Colborne Street, crossing north at the crosswalk before walking through a gas station parking lot and disappearing behind a building. Moments later, the man emerged from the location where the incident occurred.

Andrew Senechal, 29, of Orillia, has been charged with arson (damage to property), mischief (damage to property), and cruelty to animals (unnecessary pain, suffering, or injury).
