In what police are calling "an audacious crime," thieves driving a car smashed through the doors of Vaughan Mills early this morning to rob an electronics store.
"Fortunately, nobody was harmed in this incident. Nonetheless, it's an audacious crime and remarkable," said York Regional Police Sgt. Clint Whitney at a news conference today.
Two suspects in a stolen black Audi A4 with Quebec licence plates drove through one of the entrances to the mall at about 1:10 a.m. Feb. 1, he said.
Video surveillance shows the car smashing through the doors and driving around the inside of the mall.
The suspects then drove into an electronics store and stole various devices before driving through the mall and smashing through another door to get out, said Whitney.
They were last seen travelling toward Jane Street in Vaughan.
There is extensive damages to the two entrances and the electronics store, he added.
There is no clear description of the suspects but the vehicle is a 2011 black Audi A4 sedan with Quebec license plate X10 SNP. It has a distinct decal at the top of the windshield that reads Ladies on Wheels but Whitney said since it is a stolen vehicle that does not say anything about the suspects.
YRP is investigating the incident and appealing to the public for any information about the suspects or the vehicle. Whitney said anyone who sees the vehicle is asked not to engage with the occupants but to contact police as soon as possible.
